Apple crisp

So, as some of you will notice, I decided to switch language to english hoping that this will increase the number of people who are reading my blog from 3 to maybe 5.
I hope my mother(who thought english in high-school) won't start correcting my grammar mistakes.

The story behind this recipe is not very romantic... I always thought I will have to try making a crisp or a cobbler but it was never on the top of my priorities list. That was until one day I tried it at the cafeteria from work and I thought 'damn, is this delicious!' and I asked myself why I never tried it before. And it turns out I should have tried it earlier, as crisps are very easy to make, it takes no time to make them and they are very delicious.
As fall is upon us, finding delicious apples shouldn't be a problem. The recipe works best with tart apples, if you don't have an apple tree in the garden or access to a market where they sell garden apples, I would recommend Braeburn, Boskoop or Granny Smith apples, or a mixture of them.

Utensils: a bowl, a 20/23 cm round cake tin
Preparation time: 20 minutes + 40 minutes in the oven
Difficulty: easy
Servings: 4

Ingredients:
For the fruit:
  • 6 apples (about 1-1,2 kg apples), peeled, cored and cut into cubes
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
For the crisp:
  • 60 g (1/2 cup) flour
  • 45 g (1/2 cup) rolled oats
  • 4 Tbsp chopped nuts (optional)
  • 110 g (1/2 cup) brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 80 g (6 Tbsp) cold butter cut into small cubes
Method:
  • Preheat the oven to 190 degrees
  • Grease a 20 cm or 23 cm round cake tin with butter
  • In a bowl mix the apples with the sugar and cinnamon and pour them in the prepared thin
  • Now put the flour, oats, nuts, sugar, cinnamon and butter in the bowl and mix with your fingertips, working the butter into the other ingredients, until you get a sandy mixture
  • Put the crisp over the apples and put the pan in the over for 40 minutes
The crisp is best warm from the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or some whipped cream.
It is also delicious the next day and can be warmed in the microwave.
